Team Meets Coach Stock

The Rockhounds had a special treat on Friday night. Kent Stock, a former high school baseball coach who coached tiny Norway High School to an Iowa state championship in his first year as head coach, told the team about himself, the championship season, and lessons he learned about coaching and life. Coach Stock also told the team about the making of The Final Season, a movie depicting the final year of Norway High and his team's run at the championship. Thanks to Coach Stock for taking the time to talk to the boys and thanks to the Mulhollands for arranging the meeting.

Just a heads-up but I assume the 12:45 game on Saturday will be moved back as that is obviously an error.

Minor Leaguer Traded for 10 Baseball Bats

This made the rounds today, but in case you missed it:

During three years in the low minors, John Odom never really made a name for himself. That sure changed this week—he’s the guy who was traded for a bunch of bats. “I don’t really care,” he said Friday. “It’ll make a better story if I make it to the big leagues.”

Balk and the Delayed Dead Ball

USSSA baseball uses Major League Baseball rules with USSSA modifications. Since USSSA doesn't address balks, the pertinent rule is MLB 8.05:
"PENALTY: The ball is dead, and each runner shall advance one base without liability to be put out, unless the batter reaches first on a hit, an error, a base on balls, a hit batter, or otherwise, and all other runners advance at least one base, in which case the play proceeds without reference to the balk."

Rain-out Numbers

I assume (very dangerous!) that the BC Baseball weather line (442-3693) will be in effect for tomorrow's games, but in case it isn't, here is another number to try:

Fields of Legends Rainout #: (573)659-5088

Of course, the weather will hold and we'll play the games, but you never know.
